Using this Web Site: a beginner's tutorial

Before you start exploring, I suggest a small task; please select Log in. When you arrive at the Log in page, select Create new account. It’s very simple, you only need do it once and it gives you access and posting privileges to the whole site.
While you are there please click Edit and scroll down to Location, click it and enter your address so you can be informed about events in your area. So as a way of saying thank you to those who have given hundreds of volunteer hours to create this site, please make this simple effort.

Now you can choose between doing something, or just seeing what others have done.
If you choose to do your bit to save Southwest Florida’s environment, you will see along the top of each page the following choices:

Urgent Action Needed – Forums - Add New Content – My Account – Home

If you choose - Urgent Action Needed - you will go to one of the most important reasons for the Eco-voice web-site. Here you can post urgent appeals for action to your fellow environmentalists and just as important take action on other people’s pleas for help. To my knowledge, this is currently one of the few places were you can post a ‘sign-on’ letter concerning local issues in your own neighborhood.

You may want to click the – Forums – tab if you wish to express your own opinions or read other Eco-voice members messages.
Here are our current Forums:
  • Environmental Voice of Southwest Florida contains the messages you will have received in the Daily Digest, but now you are free to post your own messages regarding the subject under discussion.
  • Debate and Discuss gives you the opportunity to start a discussion on a topic of your choice.
  • Eco-Jobs gives you an opportunity to post both employment opportunities or your CV or resume. What better way to find new employees than following their contributions to Eco-voice.
  • Poetry and Literature  allows those of us that like to spread the environmental message with Poems and Prose an opportunity to do so. Please encourage the kids to send us their poems, they are our future and we should listen to what they are telling us.
  • Obituaries honor local environmentalists who have passed away.
The Add New Content page is pretty much self explanatory, select an item from the list and when you get to the “Submit” page just complete the form with the information you want to post. You need to be logged in to post. (Aren’t you glad you did it earlier as I suggested.)

Receiving Notices of New Content - One of the great benefits of the new site is the ability to receive improved notifications of new and updated material, including forum posts and events. You can control all your subscriptions from your My Account page, just click on the subscriptions tab. Here you can select how often you receive notices and what kinds of items you are notified about. Members of the yahoo digest will be transferred to receiving the same daily digest from this site, but can choose to fine tune their subscriptions from there. In addition, each forum post, message and event offers a Subscribe link at the bottom if you want to be sure to receive replies and comments by e-mail.

Site Sponsors  We are extremely grateful to those who sponsored the development of this web-site and we now need sponsors to help us maintain and improve the site. We have lots of ideas, but it all costs money. To maintain Eco-voice’s independence we prefer small donations from many different sources. To discuss sponsorship, please contact PaulHolmes@eco-voice.org

Now for those who want to explore the site, you have the following additional choices:

Event Calendar Tells you what is happening in the whole SW Florida area.

Map of Events locates upcoming events and messages geographically.

Photo Gallery Not just for fun, but all the pictures posted can be down loaded by Eco-voice members to use in their own newsletters, postersand PowerPoint’s. If you have an interesting picture you are welcome to share, please up-load it.  Just go to Add New Content and select Images.

Enviro-News Feeds A place to browse the environmental columns of theregion’s newspapers.

Local Organizations A quick way to visit the organizations whose members contribute to Eco-voice. If you have a web site please add us to your Links and we will reciprocate.

Enjoy the new site and please try and find what you want before you ask for help. Remember there are 3,750 of you and only one of me. Paul
