Jeff Simonds, FWC biologist dies in car accident
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is mourning the loss of one of their own. Jeff Simonds, a marine biologist who worked for the agency for more than eight years, died Feb. 18th from injuries sustained in a car accident. The accident occurred just before 4 p.m. on the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys.
The 32-year-old was working with the Keys Fisheries Research Program at the FWC's Fish and Wildlife Research Institute's (FWRI) Marathon lab. He joined the agency in 2002 at FWRI's Cedar Key lab.
Simonds graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla., with a Bachelor of Science in marine biology. He attended C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Simonds was a dedicated biologist who will be greatly missed.
FWRI biologist Elizabeth Overstreet, 24, also was injured in the accident.
During this difficult time, the FWC's thoughts are with the families of those involved in the accident.
