Bird with worm

On assignment in the deepest, darkest part of the Amazon Rain Forest or just outside of Lakeport (not sure which) I finally found what I was looking for. As I scooted through the muck, soaked to the bone, I could feel slimy creatures crawling inside my shirt onto my neck. Every step would bring water and mud oozing up and spilling out of what was left of my boots. Knowing I only had just a short time left, my pace quickened despite the fact that the whole jungle reached out to claim my worn-out body. Not worrying about the spiders on the webs, snakes hanging from the limbs, bugs biting my legs, I searched for the one shot I needed. The water was raising from the constant pouring rain, still I trudged on. Then, in a tiny opening a few short yards ahead, I could barely make out the outline of what I thought I had spent the whole miserable week looking for. As I searched for a path to get to where I needed to be for the best light (photographers are always concerned with the light you know!!), under the harsh carpet of the jungle floor, I barely noticed the opening of the ravine that lay between us. I almost cried looking up to the heavens wondering why Lord, why, when a monkey swung by me on a vine, straight across the divide. As he let go and the vine quickly returned to the side stopping just short of where I stood. Without even a hint of hesitation, I quickly grabbed hold of the vine and through the air I sailed. I knew the only chance for the shot would come about halfway across so I readied my canon. At the optimum moment I shot. Letting go of the vine I slammed into the bank on the other side. Pulling myself up, hands bleeding from the cutting edges of the lifeline that I had held so tightly, I lifted my camera up to view the shot. There, in the dark, wet, smelly forest, on the LCD on the back of the camera, it appeared. Just what I needed in order to go home. A photo of a female Red-Winged Blackbird with a little green worm.
Enjoy,
