JANUARY PROGRAMS AND EVENTS AT CALOOSAHATCHEE REGIONAL PARK

9th Annual River, Roots and Ruts Half Marathon and 2-Person Relay 8:00 a.m.
5K Fun Run 8:15 a.m.
Sunday, January 8
“Have you hugged a root lately?”  Registration for the 9th Annual River, Roots and Ruts Trail Run is open!  The main event is a 13.1-mile half marathon utilizing both sides of the park: the wide nature trails on the south side and the single lane mountain bike trails on the north side.  For those in training for a race or just off one, or for those that may want to experience a little less nature we have a 2-person half-marathon relay, over the same course. For those who feel that 3.1 miles is just the right amount of nature we offer a 5K Fun Run along the wide nature trails on the south side of the park.  For more information, fees, or to register, visit www.rrrtrail.com/.
 
Oxbow Kayak Clinic
Tuesday, January 10
9  – 11:00 a.m.
Join our guide as we teach the basics on kayaking.  This class will introduce you to the basic techniques of paddling and then you will have the opportunity to use your new skills for a guided trip.  We will paddle the beautiful oxbow islands of the Caloosahatchee River for a two-hour guided instructional tour.  Be prepared to experience nature at its best.  The tour is perfect for all ages and abilities.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  All kayaking equipment is provided.  Bring your own drink, lunch, sunscreen, binoculars and clothing/shoes that can get wet.  We will meet at the campground entrance at 19130 North River Road.  $25 per person.  Registration is required.  For more information, call Kelly at (239) 822 - 5212.  Register online at www.leeparks.org or by calling (239) 533 - 7440. 
 
Space Cadets Preschool Program 3 – 5 yr. olds
Wednesday, January 11
10 – 11:30 a.m.

Kayaking: Cypress Creek Home School Program
Thursday, January 19
2 – 4:00 p.m.
Students will learn basic kayaking skills then put them to the test on beautiful Cypress Creek.   Please bring water, binoculars, appropriate clothing and shoes you don’t mind getting wet.  We will meet at the campground entrance at 19130 North River Road.   $10 per student.  Parents are encouraged to participate.  A parking fee is required. Guided Nature Walk
Saturday, January 21
9 – 11:00 a.m.
Join park staff on a stroll through natural plant communities. See firsthand the plants and animals that make southwest Florida so unique.  Participants should be able to walk approximately one and a half miles.  Please dress appropriately and bring a water bottle.  We will meet at the main entrance of the park at 18500 North River Road.  This program is free with paid parking.  Limit 25 participants.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  For more information, please call Laura at (239) 694 - 0398.
 
Cypress Creek Kayak Tour
Tuesday, January 24
9 – 11:00 a.m.
This slow-paced paddle is great for all experience levels.  All kayak equipment is provided but please bring water, binoculars, appropriate clothing and shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Caloosahatchee to Hickey’s Creek Kayak Trip
Thursday, January 26
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
This six-hour kayak trip begins and ends at Caloosahatchee Regional Park campground. Paddlers should be experienced and/or be in good physical condition for a 5 mile roundtrip paddle on the Great Calusa Blueway, which includes Hickey's Creek, one of the area’s most scenic waterways. We'll eat lunch and hike at Hickey's Creek Mitigation Park before paddling back.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  All kayaking equipment is provided.  Bring your own drink, lunch, sunscreen, binoculars and clothing/shoes that can get wet.  We will meet at the campground entrance at 19130 North River Road.  $40 per person.  Registration is required.  For more information, call Kelly at (239) 822 - 5212.  Register online at www.leeparks.org or by calling (239) 533 - 7440.
 
 
Caloosahatchee Regional Park is a Lee County park located at 18500 North River Road in Alva, Florida.  The park features 768 acres of pine flatwoods, scrub oak, cypress swamps and oak hammocks. Crossing through them, you'll find over 18 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. Primitive camp sites for families and groups are available, along with equestrian sites for people with horses.
